Malarkey laminate shingles have a patented nailing area called the "ZONE".
The zone is three times larger than other laminate shingles and improves fastening installation.

Three Different Processes of Asphalt Shingle Manufacturing

There are three processes of manufacturing the base or foundation of the shingle. These are Organic based shingles, fiberglass based shingles, and fiberglass based shingles modified with rubber (SBS).

The organic based shingles are manufactured using recycled waste paper and wood fibers. It is then coated with asphalt and topped off with weather resistant mineral granules.

Fiberglass based shingles are manufactured using glass fibers of various lengths, coated with asphalt, and topped off with whether resistant mineral granules.

SBS modified based shingles use a fiberglass base. During the asphalt coating phase of production a rubberized material (SBS) is added to the asphalt coating of the base, then topped off with weather resistance mineral granules.

Types of Asphalt Shingles Available on Oahu

Strip shingles are categorized by the number of tabs they have. The most widely used strip shingles are the three tab shingles. These type of asphalt shingle are usually lighter on your wallet.

Laminated shingles have multi layered tabs and are thicker than strip shingles. Laminated shingles are also called three dimensional and architectural shingles because the multi layered tabs creates a visual depth to the decking on the roof.

Interlocking Shingles are shingles that physically interlock with each other. This interlocking creates a better wind resistant barrier against areas with constant strong winds. Higher wind warranties usually come with this type of asphalt shingle system.

Large format Shingles are hexagonal or rectangular in shape. A unique and custom appearance to any home. This type of asphalt shingle is heavier than the other types per square feet of roofing area.
