Cedar Wood Shake RoofPictured above is the cedar wood shake roof. Cedar wood is a natural material that enhances the beauty of your home.
Cedar Wood Roofing systemsCedar wood shingles are sawn on two sides and the butt is skinnier than a cedar shake. Taper sawn shakes are also sawn on both sides...Depending on the method of manufacturing and the specific dimensions of the tapered sawn shake.
Shakes are made by sawing the wood split from the block end to end at an angle. This creates a hand split and re-sawn shake.... hand split on one side and sawn on the other side. Back in the day, all wood shakes were split using a sharp hand blade called a "froe". a "mallet" was also used in this process. Taper split shakes are always spilt at an angle using hand tools. Wood shake gradingThere are two types of grading for the wood shake. The grading of the shake is the flat grain content. A number one grade shake will contain up to 20% flat grain per bundle. A premium grade shake contains no flat grain shakes.
